Joseph J. Martinez, M.D.
Joseph J. Martinez, M.D. recently joined the team at Heart and Lung Surgeons of East Alabama. Dr. Martinez earned his medical degree and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX.
Dr. Martinez earned his bachelor of science in nursing at the University of Alabama prior to becoming a surgeon. He practiced nursing for 3.5 years as an emergency room nurse prior to enrolling in medical school. Furthermore, he was a patient care technician prior to becoming a nurse. He has been in healthcare for the last 17 years and is continuing his journey at East Alabama Medical Center. He is bilingual, and fluent in written and spoken Spanish.
Dr. Martinez has been married to his wife, Chelsey Martinez, RN, for 13 years. They have a six-year-old daughter named Gabriella. In his spare time he enjoys running and reading.
Dr. Martinez is a board certified surgeon, and is practicing with the Heart and Lung Surgeons of East Alabama, 2375 Champions Boulevard #3 in Auburn. To contact his office, please call 334-528-5959.
