At Urology Associates of East Alabama, we provide comprehensive care for men's urological health.

From routine check-ups to more complex procedures, we strive to provide high quality, compassionate healthcare care to each of our patients. Our goal is to help men achieve optimal urological health and improve their overall quality of life.

Some of the conditions we treat include:

Bladder control problems, or urinary incontinence, refers to the inability to control the release of urine from the bladder. This can result in leakage, sudden urges to urinate, or frequent trips to the bathroom.

Symptoms: inability to control need to urinate, frequent need to urinate, etc.

Recurring bladder infections occur when patients experience multiple bladder infections within a six month or one-year period, often caused by bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics.

Symptoms: pain or discomfort during urination, frequent urination, need to urinate while bladder is empty, bloody urine, etc.

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, or BPH, is a condition in which the prostate enlarges as men get older. BPH is a very common condition that affects over 40 million Americans and over 500 million aging men worldwide. According to the Journal of Urology, over 40% of men in their 50s and over 70% of men in their 60s have BPH. While BPH is a benign condition and unrelated to prostate cancer, it can greatly affect a man’s quality of life. As the prostate enlarges, it presses on and blocks the urethra, causing bothersome urinary symptoms.

BPH is a common condition in older men and can be managed with medication, lifestyle changes, or surgical treatments such as UroLift or Rezum.

Symptoms: frequent or urgent need to urinate, weak urine stream, straining to urinate, etc.

Elevated PSA referred to a higher-than-normal level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the blood. PSA is produced by cells of the prostate gland, and an elevated PSA can be a sign of prostate issue such as prostate cancer or enlarged prostate. If you’ve had any of the following symptoms, consider getting a PSA test.

Symptoms: Painful or frequent urination, blood in urine or semen, pelvic pain, back pain.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a condition where a man has difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. Common causes of ED include age, underlying health conditions, medication side effects and lifestyle factors.

Symptoms: difficulty getting or maintaining an erection.

Hematuria is a medical condition where there is blood in the urine, which can be caused by various underlying medical conditions. It can be a sign of a serious condition, so it's important to see a healthcare professional if you experience this symptom.

Symptoms: pink, red or brown urine, discomfort during urination, abdominal or back pain, etc.

Incontinence is a medical condition characterized by the inability to control urination, leading to involuntary leakage of urine. It can affect people of all ages, although it is more common in older adults.

Symptoms: frequent need to urinate, difficulty urinating, leakage of urine during physical activities, etc.

Kidney stones are hard deposits of minerals and salts that build up over time in your body. Kidney stones can be excruciating to pass and are caused by a variety of factors ranging from diet to weight to related urological conditions.

Symptoms: Severe pain in side and back, pain while urinating, burning sensation while urinating, pain in groin, etc.

Testosterone is the sex hormone in men that can control factors such as sex drive, muscle mass, hair growth and more. As men get older, testosterone levels naturally begin to decline. However, to keep a healthy lifestyle it is important for men to maintain a steady testosterone level in relation to their age.

Symptoms: low sex drive, depression, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, etc.

Overactive bladder (OAB) is a condition that causes a sudden and uncontrollable urge to urinate. OAB can be caused by various factors, such as nerve problems, bladder muscle issues or certain medications, and treatment options include lifestyle changes, medication and bladder training exercises, as well as surgical treatments including sacral neuromodulation (Axonics) and botox injections.

Symptoms: constant or uncontrollable need to urinate, possible incontinence, frequent urination, etc.

Peyronie’s disease is when the penis has a significant curved shaped caused by scar tissue that results in painful erections.

Symptoms: curved and painful erection, erectile dysfunction, scarring, etc.

Premature ejaculation is a common condition where men reach an orgasm and ejaculate sooner that desired during sex.

Prostatitis is a condition that involves inflammation of the prostate gland. Treatment for prostatitis typically involves antibiotics and other medications, as well as lifestyle changes to help manage symptoms.

Symptoms: Pain, discomfort, difficulty urinating, etc.

A urethral stricture is the flow of urine is blocked or slowed by previous scarring of the urethra. Scarring can be caused by previous infections, swelling conditions, surgical procedures and more.

Symptoms: bloody urine, pain when urinating, slow urine stream, blood in semen, swelling, etc.
