Important Information Regarding Your Visit to EAASC

  • Always wear something comfortable and easy to remove. Do not wear jewelry.  If you wear contacts, bring a lens box and your glasses. You may have a support person with you when you come for surgery, but please remember that space is limited.
  • We recommend that you arrive at EAASC at least one hour before your scheduled appointment time to allow for registration and a nursing/anesthesia evaluation. Please bring any medical records or other documents related to your surgery that your physician gives you.
  • If you are taking any medications, including pain pills, you should take them as instructed; however, only with a small sip of water. If your medications include blood thinners, you will need to discuss the use of these medications with your surgeon prior to your surgery. Please call your surgeon for guidance on when to stop taking them.
  • Please bring a list of all of your current medications, dosages, and how often each of your medications are taken. This information will be reviewed again in detail with your clinical caregivers when you come to the EAASC.
  • Please bathe or shower the night before or the morning of surgery to minimize the risk of infection. Chlorahexadine (CHG) wash can be purchased at many retail pharmacies, and should be used if you are going to have a skin incision as part of your procedure. You should brush your teeth the morning of surgery, but refrain from drinking any water.
  • You should refrain from smoking after midnight the night before surgery. Smoking increases your risk for postoperative infections and should be stopped altogether.
  • If you are or could possibly be pregnant, please notify us immediately upon arrival at the EAASC. Several medications and the use of radiation may cause harm to a pregnancy.
  • Following your procedure, EAASC nursing staff will provide you with a written copy of your discharge instructions and will review those instructions with you and your support person. During your discharge education with our staff, please ask any questions that you have regarding your post discharge and recovery care.
  • You should have a responsible support person stay with you after surgery, including the first night following the surgery.
  • For the public’s safety as well as your own, EAASC requires you to have someone drive you home after surgery unless your surgeon and EAASC management have preapproved other arrangements. Some procedures, anesthesia, and medications may impair your ability to drive safely for a period of time following surgery.
  • If you do not have a driver or preapproval from your physician and EAASC management to drive yourself or take public transportation, your appointment will be cancelled.
