OPELIKA, Ala.— For the second year in a row, East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) has been recognized as one of America’s Best Hospitals by Women’s Choice Award. EAMC earned recognition as a top provider in cancer care, orthopedics and mammogram imaging by ranking in the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for those services.

“Our organization is committed to providing our community with high-quality, compassionate health care, and these awards show our dedication to that mission,” said Laura Grill, president and CEO of East Alabama Health. “We will always strive in every service line to offer the best care possible for our patients.”

Earning the recognitions required EAMC to meet rigorous performance standards showing excellence in care. The Women’s Choice Award is the only distinction that identifies the nation’s best health care institutions based on robust criteria that considers patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, relevant accreditations and women’s preferences when it comes to treatment and a quality hospital experience.

Additionally, each service line award has supplementary criteria that are specific to the service line. The methodology is 100 percent objective, replicable and uniform, according to Women’s Choice information provided to the hospital.

EAMC was ranked in the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for Cancer Care. Qualifying for the Best Hospitals for Cancer Care award required EAMC to have treated over 500 cancer patients in the previous year, and show a commitment to providing high-quality, multidisciplinary, patient-centered care.

By offering comprehensive orthopedic services including arthroscopic procedures, spine surgeries, joint replacement and other orthopaedic surgeries, as well as on-site physical therapy and MRI imaging, EAMC earned designation as a 2024 Best Hospitals for Orthopedics. EAMC ranks in the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for orthopedics.

To receive designation as a 2024 Best Hospitals for Mammogram Imaging, EAMC had to achieve a Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) score above the national average, as well as have a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence seal from the American College of Radiology. EAMC placed in the top seven percent of hospitals for mammogram imaging.
