A pediatric neurologist is a medical doctor who has specialized training in the diagnosis, treatment and management of disorders in the developing nervous system. The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles.
 
The brain and nervous system help regulate other organ systems in the body and conversely, can be adversely affected in diseases of other organ systems. Because of this, disorders in the nervous system can present in a variety of physical and neurobehavioral symptoms. Most pediatric neurologists will treat patients from birth, through infancy and adolescence, and until their young adult years.
