ICU Expansion at EAMC Takes Flight
August 22, 2024OPELIKA, Ala.—Following the assembly of a 195-foot tower crane and acquisition of building materials, three new floors are now under construction atop the West Pavilion of East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC).
Upon completion, the expansion will provided 67,395 square feet divided among three floors, a mechanical space located on the third floor, additional space for growth on the fourth floor and 30 new beds on the fifth floor. The project has an expected completion date of late 2025, with the first patients to receive care in early 2026.
The fifth floor will consist of a 20 beds for intensive care, a satellite pharmacy and 10 more beds that can be used interchangeably for step-down or intensive-care patients.
Currently, the first floor includes two cardiovascular operating rooms, 10 CVICU rooms and the Cardiac Rehab department. The second floor has 20 ICU beds and a satellite pharmacy.
