If your pregnancy isn’t routine, your OB/GYN may refer you to a maternal fetal medicine (MFM) specialist. Our high-risk pregnancy expert, also called a perinatologist, is an OB/GYN who specializes in high-risk mothers and will partner with you and your OB/GYN to manage your care during pregnancy. Your pregnancy could be considered high risk if you have existing health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure; if you develop complications during pregnancy; or if you are having twins, triplets or other multiples.

MFM physicians complete additional years of training in high-risk pregnancy after becoming an OB/GYN, and these physicians’ focus is keeping high-risk mothers their babies safe and healthy before, during and after pregnancy.

Conditions we treat and services we offer include:

  • Amniocentesis
  • Cerclage placement
  • Ultrasound: Viability, nuchal translucency, anatomic surveys, screening fetal echocardiography, growth studies, Doppler studies, antenatal testing, cervical length
  • Preconception counseling

  • Co-management of preterm labor
