Because sleep is necessary for your overall health and wellness, experiencing the effects of sleep disorders can affect your overall quality of life and your ability to perform daily tasks, such as driving and working, in a way that is safe for you and those around you.

If you experience symptoms such as snoring, breathing problems, the inability to fall or stay asleep, trouble concentrating or sleep deprivation, our board-certified sleep medicine physicians are here to help you on your mission for a good night’s sleep.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder in which you stop breathing repeatedly during sleep. If you feel tired after a night’s sleep and have been told you snore loudly while sleeping, our sleep medicine physicians can help get you the treatment you need to alleviate your symptoms and help prevent further complications.

Insomnia

Insomnia is a common sleep condition in which you have difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep or waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to return to sleep. If you suffer from insomnia, you may often feel tired when you wake, and may also experience negative changes in your mood, work performance and overall quality of life.

Narcolepsy

Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that is often characterized by sudden, uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep during the day and excessive daytime drowsiness. If you often find it difficult to stay awake during the day or for an extended period of time, talk to your physician about your symptoms and options for treatment to help manage your condition.

Restless Legs

Restless leg syndrome is a disorder that causes the irresistible urge to move the legs due to discomfort. Restless leg syndrome commonly disrupts sleep, which in turn disrupts quality of life. In some cases, this disorder can be alleviated by lifestyle changes, and in other cases, your physician may prescribe medication for treatment.

Drowsy Driving

One of the most dangerous consequences associated with not getting a good night’s sleep is drowsiness behind the wheel. The late night and early morning drive times are the most hazardous, with most crashes occurring between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m., when the body naturally experiences sleepiness.

Parasomnias

A parasomnia is any sleep disorder that involves unwanted experiences. Examples of parasomnias include events such as sleep paralysis, abnormal movements, sleepwalking, night terrors and nightmares, bedwetting and sleep talking.

Shift Work

Although humans are naturally inclined to sleep best at night and stay awake during the day, certain jobs require people to acclimate to an unnatural sleep schedule. Shift work sleep disorder affects those whose hours coincide with a typical sleeping period. In many cases, shift work sleep disorder can cause insomnia, excessive sleepiness, the constant feeling of sleep deprivation and trouble concentrating
