Certified Athletic Trainer
Athletic Trainers
Jacob Ballard
Jacob Ballard is a certified athletic trainer with the RehabWorks Sports Medicine Outreach Program, covering both Loachapoka and Notasulga High School practices and games.
When asked what he loves about athletic training, Jacob said, "Everyone knows about the Friday night lights and gamedays as well as injuries, treatment, taping, etc… but to me, one of the biggest parts of being an athletic trainer is the relationships you build with the coaches, athletes, and parents. The coaches and parents are depending on you and trusting you to take care of their players/children and having their best interest in mind, so building those relationships is important. Being an ear the athletes can vent to or encouraging them when they are down and just being a positive influence on a daily basis is what I love."
Esteban Castillo
Steven Castillo is a certified athletic training graduate assistant with the RehabWorks Sports Medicine Outreach Program and currently getting his master's degree at Auburn. He covers Booker T. Washington High School practices and games.
When asked what he loves about athletic training, Steven said, "I love athletic training because of the bonds we create with patients. It lets us create a holistic approach to their care and always advocate for their well being."
Eric Finley
Eric Finley is a certified athletic trainer with the RehabWorks Sports Medicine Outreach Program, covering Dadeville High School practices and games.
When asked what he loves about athletic training, Eric said, "Happy National Athletic Trainers' Month! What I love most about our profession is the ability to serve and provide excellent healthcare services to ALL athletes regardless of competition and skill level. There's a famous quote by Nike that says, 'If you have a body, then you are an athlete.' We truly are the team working behind the scenes to ensure that everyone is safe and able to participate in the physical activities that they enjoy most. Beyond just the scope of our daily practices, being an athletic trainer enables me to mentor and be a positive role model for others. Those that I serve know that I will always have their best interests in mind from a healthcare standpoint, as well as a human being!"
Saori Ishiki
Saori Ishiki is a certified athletic trainer with the RehabWorks Sports Medicine Outreach Program, covering Beauregard High School practices and games.
When asked what she loves about athletic training, Saori said, "I love a lot of things about athletic training; however, the biggest thing I love is being there for my student-athletes in more ways than one. Helping them when they are injured, working through several sessions of rehabilitation, and seeing them return to the sport that they love playing is incredibly rewarding, but I also love getting to know them as young people, building a relationship with each and every one of them, being a positive role model for them, and most importantly being someone they can come talk to about any problem, sport-related or not."
Payton Rampley
Payton Rampley is a certified athletic trainer with the RehabWorks Sports Medicine Outreach Program, covering Beulah High School practices and games.
When asked what she loves about athletic training, Payton said, "I truly love athletic training and all that it entails. I truly believe it's my God-given calling to provide care to the students at Beulah High School, whether that be day-to-day rehabilitation, giving words of encouragement, providing care for immediate injuries, being a listening-ear, or creating plans to help students reach their goals. Each day looks a bit different, and it's such an overwhelming joy to help students in so many unique ways. Athletic training is more than a career to me, it's truly my passion, and I am so thankful for my place at East Alabama Orthopedics and Beulah High School!"
Dakota Whatley
Dakota Whaley is the Sports Medicine Outreach Coordinator for the Sports Medicine Outreach Program. She also covers LaFayette High School practices and games.
When asked what she loves about athletic training, Dakota said, "There are so many aspects to love! I love that I never know what the day will hold. Will my office be a football field, a basketball court, a softball diamond? Surprise me! However, more than anything, I love being able to help young athletes recover from their injuries, as well as seeing their smiles when they return to the field following an injury. The way I look at it is that athletic trainers are like the guardian angels of the sports world. They're the ones who rush on the field when an athlete gets injured. They're also experts on injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation. And knowing that you're the one making a significant difference in an athlete's life – helping them recover faster and get back to doing what they love – is incredibly rewarding."
