Outreach Programs

RehabWorks Sports Medicine Outreach is a joint venture of RehabWorks, East Alabama Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, The Kenny Howard Athletic Training Fellowship and Auburn University’s Department of Kinesiology. This not-for-profit fellowship, was created in 1998 by Dr. Robert McAlindon and Jake Shaw, PT to educate ATCs in the area of youth and adolescent sports medicine and to provide sports medicine coverage to local high schools. The Kenny Howard Fellowship was merged into RehabWorks Sports Medicine in 2014. Fundraising efforts and assistantships created at Auburn University in Kenny Howard’s honor remains.

What we do:

•  provide some level of sports medicine coverage to more than 11 local high schools and organizations. (See our schools here)
•  provide sports medicine care for Auburn University’s Club Sports and Intramurals
•  provide a “Bumps and Bruises” Clinic on Saturday mornings at EAOSM’s office during the Fall sports season
•  Provide musculoskeletal evaluations for AU’s Department of Kinesiology's Tiger Fit program
•  Provide Pre-participation physicals to local teams
•  Educate coaches, athletes, administration, and parents in nutrition, injury prevention, rehabilitation techniques, hydration, and other health related topics
•  Initiate research in the areas of sports medicine
•  Participate annually in AU’s on campus Health Fair
•  Provide back-up coverage to Super 6 Football Championship as needed
•  Provide event coverage to any recreational activities when requested
