Respiratory Care
The Respiratory Care department at East Alabama Health serves patients in the hospital under qualified medical direction. Respiratory care services are provided to patients with cardiopulmonary system disorders. The department offers respiratory care services 24 hours a day to patients of all ages.

Diagnostic services include acquisition and analysis of arterial blood gas specimens, pulmonary function tests, pulmonary stress tests, bedside spirometry and indirect calorimetry.
Therapy provided includes application and monitoring of oxygen including high-flow oxygen support, non-invasive and invasive ventilator support, artificial airway care, CPAP, pulmonary hygiene, chest physiotherapy, introduction of pharmacologic agents related to respiratory care procedures and pulmonary rehabilitation.
All services are provided in accordance with physician orders, including therapist-driven protocols.
All individuals who provide diagnostic or therapeutic services are licensed respiratory practitioners in the state of Alabama. Our respiratory therapists all have appropriate qualifications and training. Practitioners and staff include board certified pulmonologists, an administrative/technical director, registered respiratory therapists, certified respiratory therapists and clerical support.
Services are provided on all general floors, all intensive care areas, in the Emergency Department, on the Skilled Nursing unit, in Pediatrics, in the Respiratory Care department and in the Cardiology department.
