The Swallow and Voice Management Center at Rehabworks uses a multidisciplinary approach to treating patients diagnosed with dysphagia and voice disorders.

For Dysphagia, combining both traditional therapy and new technology, our speech therapists work together with physical therapists, occupational therapists and registered dietitians to help patients achieve the following benefits:

  •  Reduction or elimination of swallowing difficulties
  •  Reduced risk of side effects
  •  Improved nutritional status, including weight gain
  •  Improved quality of life

For Voice disorders, diagnosis and treatment will include a multidisciplinary approach utilizing local ENTs and speech therapists at RehabWorks. Treatment will help patients achieve the best quality voice possible using traditional therapy and new technology.

Common Questions

Any person who is having difficulty swallowing would benefit from treatment being offered at RehabWorks. People who typically fall in this category are those who have suffered a stroke, have a neurologic disease (Parkinson’s, Multiple System Atrophy, ALS, or MS), or have had some form of head and neck cancer. Those with head and neck cancer are great candidates to receive preventative treatment before, during, and after chemoradiation treatment.

Any person with any of the following: vocal fold dysfunction, hoarseness, dysphonia, aphonia, and/or respiratory dysfunction.

Referrals can be sent to RehabWorks via fax. For swallowing patients the diagnosis should include dysphagia. If a Modified Barium Swallow Study is being requested please indicate it on the referral. Voice patients should have the diagnosis included (i.e. chronic hoarseness, Spasmodic dysphonia, vocal nodules, vocal fold paralysis, etc.) Referrals must be signed by the doctor.

The Swallow and Voice Management Center offers traditional swallowing and voice therapy as well as VitalStim therapy, SEMG, Swallowing Boot Camp, and LSVT-LOUD.
