Colorectal Cancer
Colon cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in the U.S., yet it is one of the few types of cancer that is almost completely preventable through screenings and early prevention.
The colonoscopy is the test of choice—there are other methods, but in most cases, the colonoscopy is the gold standard. While no one wants this done routinely, the process is relatively simple, and our doctors go to great lengths to make it as comfortable as possible.
Unfortunately, there a few symptoms that point specifically to a diagnosis of colon cancer and you may face a diagnosis without ever seeing symptoms. That is why it’s so important to undergo the screening colonoscopy to find the disease as early as possible. Our team of experts use various treatments and therapies to treat colon cancer, with the most common being surgery and chemotherapy.
Gynecologic Cancers
Gynecologic cancer refers to cancer that begin in a woman’s reproductive organs. While all women are at risk for gynecologic cancers, when found early, treatment is most effective.
Common Types of Gynecologic Cancer:
- Cervical cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Uterine cancer
There is no way to know for sure if you will get a gynecologic cancer. That’s why it is important to pay attention to your body and know what is normal for you, so you can recognize the warning signs or symptoms.
Lung Cancer
Lung cancer begins in the lungs and may spread to lymph nodes or other organs in the body. Lung cancer claims the lives of more Alabamians than any other form of cancer, but the good news is there are preventative measures and screenings that can help you detect it early. If lung cancer is detected early, like many other cancers, there is a much higher rate of survival.

Prostate Cancer
The prostate is a part of the male reproductive system. As a man ages, the prostate tends to increase in size. Men may also have other prostate changes as they age that do not always lead to cancer.
It is important to understand that if something is wrong, the earlier disease is detected, the better chance of prevention and management. Prostate cancer is common among men, with the American Cancer Society estimating that approximately one man in seven will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. A PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood test, which is used to screen for prostate cancer, is something that men should consider and ask their primary care physician about.
